Agrenocythere was named by Benson (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 929]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Trachyleberididae by Bergue and Govindan (2010), Yamaguchi et al. (2016).
