Bairdiolites was named by Croneis and Gale (1939) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u P l Sepkoski's reference number: ZR89]. Its type is Bairdiolites crescentis.

It was assigned to Carinobairdiinae by Kollmann (1963); to Nodobairdiini by Kozur (1985); to Bairdiidae by Becker and Wang (1992), Hoare and Mapes (2000); and to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
