Discussion
Alexander (1933) originally misidentified the type species as Cythere sphenoides(/i). In this publication (Puckett, 2002), the correct identification of Alexander's type material from the Brownstown Formation (early Campanian) of northeast Texas is recognized as Brachycythere crenulata Crane 1965.

Brachycythere was named by Alexander (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi R Sepkoski's reference number: 167]. It was considered unknown by Alexander (1934).
It was assigned to Cytheridae by Alexander (1933), Alexander (1934); to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Trachyleberididae by Puckett (2002).
