Callistocythere was named by Ruggieri (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 2,1066]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Leptocytheridae by Benson et al. (1961), Yamaguchi et al. (2016).
