Hemicytherura was named by Elofson (1941) [Sepkoski's age data: K Vala R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cytherurinae by Bertels (1969); to Cytheruridae by Bertels (1975), Blaszyk (1987); and to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
