It was assigned to Pelomedusidae by Frank and Ramus (1996); to Erymnochelydand by Gaffney et al. (2011); to Podocnemidae by Cadena et al. (2012); and to Podocnemididae by de Broin and de la Fuente (1993), van Dijk et al. (2014), de la Fuente et al. (2014) and Ferreira et al. (2024).
