Munseyella was named by van Bold (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant R Sepkoski's reference number: 172]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cytherinae by Marianos and Valentine (1958) and Bertels (1969); to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pectocytheridae by Bertels (1973), Bertels (1975), Ayress (1995), Ceolin et al. (2015) and Ceolin et al. (2024).
