Taxonomy
Ophiopsis dorsalis was named by Agassiz (1843). Its type specimen is BMNH P.466, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Swanage (BMNH fish coll.), which is in a Berriasian marine horizon in the United Kingdom.
