Perissocytheridea was named by Stephenson (1938) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cytheromorphinae by van den Bold (1965); to Cytherideidae by Uliana and Musacchio (1978); to Cytheridinae by Ballent (1980); to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Brachycytheridae by Carignano (2012).
