Taxonomy
Bandringa rayi was named by Zangerl (1969). Its type specimen is FMNH PF 5686, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Area 3, Pit 11, Peabody Coal Company, which is in a Moscovian marine shale in the Carbondale Formation of Illinois.
