Procytherura was named by Whatley (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar-l K Haut-u Sepkoski's reference number: 74]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Cytheruridae by Harloff and Jäger (1994); and to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
