Taxonomy
Lepidotes toombsi was named by Jain and Robinson (1963). Its type specimen is BMNH P.25180, a partial skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Manea, near Ely, which is in a Kimmeridgian marine horizon in the Kimmeridge Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
