Zeusdelphys was named by Marshall (1987). Its type is Zeusdelphys complicatus.

It was assigned to Kollpaniidae by Marshall et al. (1990); to Didelphimorphia by Goin et al. (1998); to Eometatheria by Ladaveze and Muizon (2010); to Protodidelphidae by Oliveira and Goin (2011); and to Hatcheriformes by Carneiro and Oliveira (2017).
