M. Murakami et al. 2012 | A new species of phocoenid with a fossa for the ba- sisphenoidal sinus; parietals exposed in dorsal view; deep dorsal condyloid fossa; a ventrally bending posterior process of periotic; angle between posterior process of periotic and long axis of pars cochlearis <135◦. Differing from all phocoenids by: the absence of a premaxillary eminence; posterior half of the hamular process of the pterygoids not separated by palatines; a prominently dor- solaterally projecting premaxilla; premaxilla considerably over- hanging the maxilla and extending in line with the most lateral of the dorsal infraorbital foramen; a supraorbital process of the maxilla, steeply sloping ventrolaterally; a transversely straight- ened posterior margin of the ascending process of the maxilla in anterior view; a lateral suture line of the maxilla-frontal from the antorbital process to the postorbital process below the ventral limit of the rostrum in lateral view; a posteriorly protruding tem- poral crest; an anteroventrally narrowed and inverted teardrop- shaped temporal fossa; and several short ridges on the tympa- nosquamosal recess of the squamosal. |
