Archaeophocaena teshioensis
Taxonomy
Archaeophocaena teshioensis was named by Murakami et al. (2012). Its type specimen is NMV-56, a partial skull (partial skull lacking periotics), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kiyokawa Hidarimata Valley, which is in a Messinian marine mudstone in the Koetoi Formation of Japan. It is the type species of Archaeophocaena.
