Charixa was named by Lang (1915) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti K Albi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 908]. Its type is Charixa vennensis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Pyripora by Bassler (1953).

It was assigned to Cyclostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Electridae by Taylor (1986), Taylor (2010), Gordon (2012), Dick et al. (2014).
