Taxonomy
Retitricolpites absolutus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 44, 4.8 x 104.4, a microspore (Pollen grain), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Pinalerita UFP 44, Llanos foothills, Colombia, which is in an Eocene fluvial-deltaic claystone/mudstone in the San Fernando Formation of Colombia.
It was recombined as Poloretitricolpites absolutus by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001).

---|---|---|
A. E. González-Guzmán 1967 | Pollen grain tricolpate, spheroidal; furrow C α 2, C β 2, C γ 1. Sculpture type reticulate (diameter of lumina 1 μ). Polar area rather large. Grain provided with costar colpi. Thickness of exine about 1.5 μ. (incl. reticulum). Equatorial zone tectate and psilate-foveolate, but polar zones per-reticulate. Muri with perfoate tectum. Reticulum diminishes towards equatorial zone, where sculpture becomes foveate-psilate. Ectexine thicker than endexine. | |
C. A. Jaramillo and D. L. Dilcher 2001 | Tricolpate, mid sized (27 µm), subprolate, exine thick, tectate, colpi short, costate, psilate at equator, foveolate-reticulate at poles. |
