Kaatedocus was named by Tschopp and Mateus (2013). Its type is Kaatedocus siberi.

It was assigned to Diplodocinae by Tschopp et al. (2015); to Diplodocinae by Tschopp and Mateus (2013), Foster and Peterson (2016); to Dicraeosauridae by Whitlock and Wilson Mantilla (2020); and to Flagellicaudata by Mannion and Moore (2025).
