Primorella was named by Romantchuk and Kiseleva (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse Tr Indu Sepkoski's reference number: 905].

It was assigned to Rhomboporidae by Ernst (2000); and to Trepostomida by Sepkoski (2002).
