Taxonomy
Sclerocephalus haeuseri was named by Goldfuss (1847) [Type specimen is the neotype designated by Boy (1988)]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is PIM N 1203, a skeleton. Its type locality is Pfarrwald at Heimkirchen, which is in an Asselian/Sakmarian terrestrial horizon in the Meisenheim Formation of Germany.
