Synocladia was named by King (1849) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 571,905,1241].

It was assigned to Fenestrata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Acanthocladiidae by Bassler (1953), Lisitsyn and Ernst (2004).
