Taxonomy
Porina was named by d'Orbigny (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Porinidae.

It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Porinidae by Canu and Bassler (1935), Stach (1936), Brown (1952), Bassler (1953), Brown (1956), Brown (1958), Lee et al. (1997), Schmidt (2003), Bock (2006), Guha and Gopikrishna (2007), Guha (2013), Gordon and Taylor (2015).
