Adeonella was named by Busk (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 629]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Adeonidae, Adeonoidea.

It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); to Adeonellidae by Bock (2006); and to Adeonidae by Bassler (1953), Pouyet (2000), Gordon (2012).
