Arachnopusia was named by Jullien (1886) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Arachnopusiidae.
It was assigned to Arachnopusiidae by Canu and Bassler (1935), Brown (1952), Bassler (1953), Brown (1956), Brown (1958), Gordon et al. (1994), Lee et al. (1997), Gordon and Taylor (1999), Schmidt (2003), Guha and Gopikrishna (2007), Guha (2013), Gordon and Taylor (2015).
