Bicornifera was named by Lindenberg (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani T Ol-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1010]. It is the type genus of Bicorniferidae.

It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bicorniferidae by Gordon (2012).
