Taxonomy
Catenicella was named by de Blainville (1830) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l T Ol-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Catenicellidae.

It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Catenicellidae by Bassler (1953), Brown (1958), Bock (2006).
