Taxonomy
Umbonula was named by Hincks (1880) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Umbonulidae.

It was assigned to Exochellidae by Brown (1952); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Umbonulidae by Bassler (1953), Pouyet (2000), Bock (2006), Di Martino and Taylor (2015).
