Taxonomy
Galatheites was named by Balss (1913). Its type is Galathea zitteli.

It was synonymized subjectively with Gastrosacus by Schweitzer et al. (2010).

It was assigned to Munidopsinae by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2000); and to Catillogalatheidae by Robins et al. (2016), Klompmaker et al. (2022), Schweitzer et al. (2023).
