Dightonia was named by Brown (1948) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l R].
It was assigned to Gigantoporidae by Brown (1952), Bassler (1953); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Escharinidae by Gordon (2012).
