Emballotheca was named by Levinsen (1909) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Schizoporellae by Canu and Bassler (1935); to Hippoporinidae by Brown (1958); to Schizoporellidae by Bassler (1953), Brown (1956) and Pouyet (2000); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lanceoporidae by Berning (2006).
