Taxonomy
Chimaera mantellii was named by Buckland (1835). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lewes (Upper Chalk, Mantell collection), which is in a Turonian/Coniacian carbonate chalk in the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Chimaera (Psittacodon) mantellii by Agassiz (1843); it was recombined as Edaphodon mantellii by Woodward (1891).
