Gephyrotes was named by Norman (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Kelestominae by Bassler (1953); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cribrilinidae by Pouyet (2000), Berning (2006), Bock (2006).
