Trionyx foveatus
Taxonomy
Trionyx foveatus was named by Leidy (1856). Its type specimen is ANSP 9269, a partial shell (small fragments of costal and sternal plates), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Judith River badlands (USGS), which is in a Campanian/Campanian terrestrial horizon in the Judith River Formation of Montana.
It was recombined as Aspideretes foveatus by Hay (1908) and Hay (1930); it was recombined as Hummelichelys foveatus by Chkhikvadze (2000); it was recombined as Aspideretoides foveatus by Leidy (1856), Gardner et al. (1995) and Joyce et al. (2016).
