Taxonomy
Pitheculites rothi was named by Marshall (1990). Its type specimen is MNHN 535, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Alto Río Cisnes, which is in a Friasian fluvial tuff/sandstone in the Río Frias Formation of Chile.
