Vincularia was named by Defrance (1829) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sant R Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Vinculariidae.

It was assigned to Membraniporidae by Brown (1952); to Membraniporidae by Canu and Bassler (1935), Bassler (1953); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Vinculariidae by Bock (2006), Gordon (2012), Guha (2013), Di Martino and Taylor (2014).
