Alsophilocaulis calveloi
Taxonomy
Alsophilocaulis calveloi was named by Menendez (1961). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is BA Pb 7696, a stem. Its type locality is Aluminé - Arroyo Puipucón, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial horizon in the Rancahué Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Alsophilocaulis.

Rastros foliares densamente dispuestos en la zona cortical, de sección circular, oval, oblonga o piriforme, rodeados por vainas esclerenquemáticas individuales o comunes a varios haces; anficribales, con protoxilema mesarca. Haces vasculares corticales pequeños, anficribales, con protoxilema mesarca, sin vaina esclerenquimática o acompañados lateralmente por haces de fibras esclerenquimáticas. Zona cortical parenquimática, epidermis no se observa, hipodermis con dos capas; la interna de fibras esclerenquimáticas, la externa más ancha, de parénquima con células de paredes engrosadas. Médula con innumerables hacecillos vasculares anficribales, de sección circular o elíptica, con protoxilema mesarca y hacecillos de fibras esclerenquimáticas aislados o rodeando de a 2 ó 3, a un haz vascular. | |
