Hoplocheilina was named by Canu (1911) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno R Sepkoski's reference number: 2].

It was assigned to Onychocellidae by Bassler (1953); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Romancheinidae by Gordon (2012).
