Chorizopora was named by Hincks (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Chorizoporidae.

It was assigned to Hippothoidae by Bassler (1953), Pouyet (2000); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Chorizoporidae by Berning (2006), Bock (2006), Gordon (2012).
