Mamillopora was named by Canu and Bassler (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Mamilloporidae.

It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mamilloporidae by Bassler (1953), Bock (2006).
