Microporella was named by Hincks (1877) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 629]. It is extant.
It was assigned to Microporellae by Canu and Bassler (1935); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Microporellidae by Ulrich and Bassler (1904), Brown (1952), Bassler (1953), Brown (1958), Pouyet (2000), Berning (2006), Guha and Gopikrishna (2007), Zagorsek et al. (2010), Guha (2013) and Di Martino and Taylor (2015).
