Bunobrontops savagei was named by Holroyd and Ciochon (2000). Its type specimen is UCMP 128416, an other (a right M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bahin 4, Pondaung Sandstone, which is in a Bartonian terrestrial sandstone/siltstone in the Pondaung Formation of Myanmar. It is the type species of Bunobrontops.
