Orbitulipora was named by Stoliczka (1862) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Ol-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1260]. It is the type genus of Orbituliporidae.
It was assigned to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Orbituliporidae by Bassler (1953), Bock (2006), Gordon (2012).
