Quadricellaria was named by d'Orbigny (1841) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 610,626]. It is the type genus of Quadricellariidae.
It was assigned to Membraniporidae by Bassler (1953); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Quadricellariidae by Schmidt (2003), Gordon (2012).
