Rotiporina was named by Brydone (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo-u T Than-l Sepkoski's reference number: 864. Sepkoski mis-spelled "Rotiporina" as "Rotoporina" in his Genus Compendium.].

It was assigned to Porinidae by Bassler (1953); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Scorioporidae by Gordon (2012).
