Schizotheca was named by Hincks (1877) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u-u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Reteporidae by Bassler (1953), Pouyet (2000); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Phidoloporidae by Berning (2006), Bock (2006).
