Stichoporina was named by Stoliczka (1862) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l T Mi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1260].

It was assigned to Orbituliporidae by Canu and Bassler (1935), Bassler (1953); and to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002).
