Tessaradoma was named by Norman (1869) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Gigantoporidae by Bassler (1953); to Spiroporinidae by Cheetham (1972); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tessaradomidae by Lee et al. (1997), Bock (2006), Gordon (2012).
