Tubucellaria was named by d'Orbigny (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Tubucellariidae.
It was synonymized subjectively with Margaretta by Bock (2006).
It was assigned to Tubucellariidae by Stach (1936), Bassler (1953), Brown (1956), Brown (1958); and to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002).
