Axestemys cerevisia
Taxonomy
Axestemys cerevisia was named by Vitek (2012). Its type specimen is UW 2382, a set of postcrania (a carapace, plastron, partial pectoral and pelvic girdles, and one cervical vertebrae), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is NE of Opal, UW locality V-65004 (V65004, V.65004), which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.

N. S. Vitek 2012 | Axestemys cerevisia can be diagnosed as a member of Axestemys by a maximum known carapace length of 97 cm, presence of a preneural, and a single lateral hyoplastral process. Axestemys cerevisia can be differentiated from other member of Axestemys by a wide, smooth border of the carapacial callosity, open suprascapular fontanelles with no suture between the posterolateral edge of nuchal and the first costals, smooth and reduced hyoplastral-hypoplastral callosities, and absence of xiphiplastral callosities. |
