Luantus propheticus

Taxonomy
Luantus propheticus was named by Ameghino (1899). Its type specimen is MACN A 2018, a mandible (right mandibular fragment with p4–m3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Piso Astrapothericulense, which is in a Colhuehuapian/Santacrucian terrestrial horizon in Argentina.

Synonyms
  • Eocardia prisca was named by Ameghino (1899). Its type specimen is MACN A 2018, a mandible (right mandibular fragment with p4-m3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Piso Astrapothericulense, which is in a Colhuehuapian/Santacrucian terrestrial horizon in Argentina.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Luantus propheticus by Kramarz (2006).

A. G. Kramarz 2006Cheek teeth higher crowned than in L. initialis. Cement present during senile stages. Enamel covering discontinuous only at the base of the labial wall of the upper cheek teeth and at the base of the lingual wall of the lowers. Hypoflexid extending halfway across the crowns during initial and intermediate stages of wear, but more than halfway in later stages. Mesolophid present in m1 and highly variable in m2 and m3. Lower premolar with mesolophid more developed than in L. initialis and with highly variable rudimentary accessory anterior prism.
